It’s one of the most common answers I get from my clients when I ask them what they think is getting in the way of them speaking their truth in public.
“I don’t want to mess up.”
Or some variation, like:
“I want to share my story through a podcast, but I’m scared I’ll say something wrong.”
“I don’t want to sound dumb.”
“I feel like I’m not good enough to speak out and express myself.”
Do you ever feel the urge to share your story but feel blocked?
Maybe you end up not sharing it at all because you’re afraid of messing up or not showing up perfectly?
If so, my question to you is:
Can you really mess up or is it your perfectionism blocking you? 😮💨
A reminder to all my recovering perfectionists (myself included):
There is no “right” way to share your story.
➡️ There is no “right” way to speak, BUT there are a million different ways to speak in a way that is powerful, life-changing, healing, and transformative—for your audience and for yourself.
Yes, there are storytelling techniques that can enhance your magic. Yes, there are public speaking tools that can help you expand your toolkit of options. Yes, there are somatic practices that can help you feel full-body confidence and ease (all of which we go over in private coaching btw).
But at the end of the day, there’s no one golden rubric to follow.
*You* have to decide how you want to tell your story. 🪄✨💫
And that can be really scary. Especially for those of us who were conditioned to feel validated by high achievement, the A+’s, the “good job”s for getting it right.
But when you let go of the “straight A” mindset when it comes to telling your story, it can be empowering—and liberating—to speak your truth.
This is what I help my clients do inside private coaching. Through my unique approach to public speaking coaching (a holistic framework blending trauma-informed coaching, tangible public speaking skills, somatics, and ancestral healing), I’ll help you clear blockages holding you back (including perfectionism 😮💨) and break generational cycles through your voice, speaking, and creative expression.
My clients work with me because they don’t have to explain to me the different ways it can be hard to unlearn the conditioning that comes with being a first gen trailblazer and a cycle-breaking daughter of immigrants.
AND because they’re ready to access a fuller, more liberated, more powerful version of themselves.
Because I can help you reclaim your lived experiences as strengths and tap back into (and amplify) the unique superpower of your voice. 🗣️
